The University of Maziar, in collaboration with Iranian Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) organize "The 1st International Conference on Sustainable Tourism of Caspian Sea Coastlines: Opportunities and Challenges" in light of the increasing importance of developing more responsible and sustainable tourism in the Caspian sea coastlines.
The Conference which will bring together authorities, representatives and experts of States, non-governmental organizations, higher education institutes and also the students involved in tourism industry from around the world will be held on 10-11 May, 2012 in Mahmudabad, the north of Iran.
Featuring International speakers of the highest level, the conference on sustainable tourism of Caspian Sea coastlines will bring together experts and high profile public and private tourism stakeholders in panels on:
- investment opportunities in different fields of coastal tourism
- Caspian Sea coasts potentials for attracting tourist
- sustainable tourism development approaches in Caspian Sea coasts 
- how to better organize Caspian Sea coastal strip
- Promoting solidarity among countries surrounding Caspian Sea in field of coastal tourism
- Tourism vis-à-vis coming together of cultures in Caspian Sea areas

The main objective of the conference is to provide a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the Caspian Sea coastline destinations and it also aims to showcase the relevance and importance of the issues related to tourism and its various facets like, Culture, Environment, Economy, Communications, Education and Research, City and Architecture and management.
The working languages of the conference are English and Persian.

Introduction

Irans position is among the first eight countries of the world in viewpoint of cultural and historical monuments and also it is among five preferable countries of the world in viewpoint of climatic diversification and ecotourism attractions. The religious, historical and natural attractions in Iran have made this country to a monopolized pole for tourists from all over the world besides to its several thousand civilization but the available realities reflected in numbers not having a good position in tourism industry in Iran, meanwhile available potential and capacities have been inactive in Iranian tourism field. Countries such as Turkey and United Arab Emirates in region due to scientific programming have had successful results in this field as gaining currency, employment generating, economic growth, cultural development, environment conservation, international advertisement and so on. The first international conference on "sustainable tourism of Caspian sea coasts, opportunities and threats" wants meanwhile studying tourism industry pathology and trying for getting access to practical and scientific approaches, takes an effective step for gaining access to a better position in this field.
